Experience reports of our trainees
Christina Schwab (1986), International Trainee at Oiltanking GmbH since March 15, 2010; prior to that, Nordakademie Student at Marquard & Bahls AG (from October 2006 to March 2010).
1. Why did you decide to pursue a trainee program and a dual Bachelor’s degree at our company? What did you find particularly appealing?
For my dual Bachelor’s degree, I wanted in particular to work in a company with an international focus where I could also get experience abroad. This is something that Marquard & Bahls offers. I was also interested in the different business divisions at M&B that I got to know during my studies. Also, I liked the friendly atmosphere that was already apparent even at my first interview. At the end of the day, everything just felt right.
After working at Oiltanking I wanted to stay in the area of tank terminals, so I decided to take part in the subsequent trainee program. This allows me to gain a further insight into the tank terminal business and new projects, to get experience abroad and find my way around different teams in the process.
2. How would you describe our company and our culture?
Every subsidiary at M&B has its own corporate culture. But what they have in common is an open and uncomplicated way of interacting that puts you at ease. This is something that I experienced not just in Hamburg, but everywhere I worked for the company. I was given a very warm welcome everywhere I went and was able to fit in well.
3. What do you like most about your work or your traineeship at our company?
The thing I like most is that I can gain experience in a large number of areas, giving me a comprehensive picture of M&B’s different business divisions. At Oiltanking, I like the fact that there is a major focus on operations in addition to administrative functions. This makes it possible to familiarize myself with important processes. All of these things make the training varied and interesting, giving me the opening to find the area that is right for me.
